Omens???

Three and a half miles into today’s planned 13 mile run in the Tully valley; 85+ degrees, sun, yesterday’s tough workout made me seriously doubt my ability to finish the run. The heat was relentless and the wind out of the south only made the climb toward Solvay Rd. More difficult.
At about mile 6 of this sufferfest I asked myself how Ultra Athlete David Goggins would manage this nasty senario with 7 hot miles to go. I decided that he would probably tell himself,”enough of a warm up, let’s get going and get the real work done”.
I made it to my water drop at mile 8 and felt a little better after chugging a half bottle and put a full one in my belt.
I took off past the 10 mile turn and saw two men in a yard talking. Amazingly, one of the men was Sid Hill, the Tadahoe of the Iroquois Nation and great guy who I coached with when our sons were little lacrosse players for OMA. It has been many years since our coaching days, and it was great to see him again. He continues to do good things for the Nation and fights for issues to protect our environment. I am sure it was my imagination, but as I got underway again it started to feel slightly cooler and there were a few more puffy clouds to offer some shade from the sun.
The last few miles flew by and I felt great considering that this past couple days I had swum appx. A mile and a half, biked 56 miles, and run over 19 miles.
My special day was not quite over. As I was on my half mile cool down near the rock sculptures at the Yoga house on Nichols Rd. a magnificent young buck exploded out of the corn field about 10 yards in front of me ran across the road and into the woods.
I hope these cool events,”omens?” of today bring a little bit of luck at Henderson , NV in two weeks . There 85 degrees will be considered a “cold snap”. B
