Tour de Syracuse 2010

Tour de Syracuse took place this past weekend 5/22 – 5/23/10 with a very impressive showing by our own Mello Velo Racers, Randy Hadzor, Dan Fitzgibbons, Brian Nilson, Wesley Hadzor and Kate Stewart.

The race this weekend was a stage race called an Omnium which included a Criterium, Time Trial and Road Race. The Crit was located in the Strathmore neighborhood in Syracuse’s West Side at Onondaga Park. Criteriums consist of a loop, usually no longer than a mile, where riders cycle a certain number of laps depending on what category they ride in (Cat 5-1).

Second race was the 3 mile time trial around Crooked Lake at Song Mountain, Tully NY. Go hard or go home!

A few hours later, cyclists were back on the road getting ready for their road race which depending on category was either a 28, 56 or 84 mile race.

Variety Studios would like to congratulate all the competitors and thank all the volunteers involved in this weekend’s Tour de Syracuse.

Congratulations to Dan Fitzgibbons for winning King Of The Mountain in the road race.

A huge congratulations goes out to Variety Studios’ Randy Hadzor for placing 3rd in the Criterium, 2nd in the time trial and 1st in the road race, finishing 1st place in the Omnium Cat 5 (competing in all 3 races) overall standings.

Testing stuff out!

Just finished up a ride with wes, with some gusts of wind you had to throw a shoulder into ’em just to stay up right, then it was most effective to yell at the gusts and ride harder so that you created your own direction of wind.

Anyhow, Wes and Bob are both entered into an experimental seat trial program where they are in pursuit of the perfect seats, Wes is currently experimenting with the fizik road seat while Bob is experimenting with some crazy split style seat. I suggested they post reviews about what they think of the different kinds, check back to see if there are any seat reviews in the next weeks here!

I was lovin’ the weather out there, playing with aerodynamics and such of some new to me gear.. out with the TT bike and an ol’ Louis Garneau Rocket hat.. Slightly disorienting as my ears couldn’t be used as easily for sonar locating but it sure is fun!

Multisport season opener

The BTB multisport racing season officially started yesterday at the Du The Lakes Duathlon at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, NY. The 3 mile run 20 mile bike and 3 mile run was the first test this season for Bob and Randy Hadzor of BTB.

His first place overall finish marks the first step for Randy in his recent empasis on serious multisport training and competition. His 3 mile run times of 6:05 and 6;08 combined with an avg bike speed of 23.1 mph gave Randy an impressive total time of 1hr. 30 min 39 sec.
Bob’s finish of 1hr. 59 min gave him a solid 3rd. place finish in his age group and 46th overall. This was Bob’s return to multisport competition for the first time in almost 30 years!
Looking ahead to next sunday, May 2nd, the BTB boys will be back in action at the challenging 2010 Syracuse Mountain Goat Run. Ten miles of hilly Syracuse roads.
Bring on the van filled with African runners!!
