This is a list compiled of the things that grown men with shaved legs use to unify and justify what lots of them feel is the ‘essence of cycling’..
BTB agrees with some of these things. not all of them. our rules remain simple:
work hard.
have fun.
If you are getting into cycling though and are curious about some of the bizarre norms or want to slip into the cycling community stealthily this list may be of some assistance.
I just finished reading Lopez Lomong’s book “Running for my Life”. The story he tells in this book is amazing. He is a truly inspirational person.
I had the honor of finishing 3rd to him and Dominic Luka in many high school cross country + maybe even some track races (in indoor the goal was just to not get lapped). I’ve always respected Lopez’s talent and hard work (especially while still looking like he’s having fun) the book gives you insight into his truly remarkable life and the story exudes goodness.
I highly recommend any athlete, teacher, coach, American, random kids growing up; everyone, really, to read this book.
BTB’s very own Randy Hadzor swerving through traffic (~1:00-1:06) at the beginning of Powerman Zofingen 2012 – duathlon long course world championships… “had to run upstream to catch up to the ITU elites that had VIP positioning at the start.”-rh
I still don’t quite know how to fully recap this race…
in just a few short days we went from saying wow this race looks ridiculous to having a car loaded with 4 bicycles and their corresponding humans.. adam, doug, myself from the syracuse, and an ithaca jeremy we picked up along the way south..
bilenky cycleworks presents: junkyard cyclocross
when we were down there someone described it very accurately by saying the whole scene and atmosphere could easily be mistaken as a fantastical bad-dream … a wondrous, fantastical, dream full of unicorns and clowns riding bicycles up and over the deteriorated bones of cars.. no doubt a symbol of something — perhaps the future of the vehicular war that wages on for street equality, and here the bicycles were the victorious tribe dancing and shouting over the once oppressive beasts as they return to the earth or are harvested on this day to make sport for the bicycles in form of ramps and puzzles
This makes round 2 for the blitzkrieg trips to PA for racing bicycles, I never got around to posting a review but the day after GOBBLECROSS 2012 was the Dirty Dozen which rode around Pittsburgh, racing up some of the steepest hills around the city… it was awesome.
